World Duchenne Awareness Day
Today we observe World Duchenne Awareness Day. #WorldDuchenneAwarenessDay
Why it matters
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or DMD, is a serious muscle disease.
Progress has given real hope. At one time, boys with DMD were not expected to reach their teenage years. Today, many with DMD now live into their 30s, and some even into their 40s and 50s.
How to observe
1. Learn - Take time to understand what DMD is and how it affects individuals and families.
2. Listen - If you know someone with DMD, encourage them to share their story.
3. Support - Donate to the World Duchenne Organization.
4. Advocate - Help spread awareness about DMD in your community and online.
5. Share - Use #WorldDuchenneAwarenessDay on social media to raise awareness.
History of the Day
DMD was first diagnosed over 150 years ago, but it took many years to truly understand its impact.
The first World Duchenne Awareness Day was launched in 2014 by Elizabeth Vroom and Nicoletta Madia, both active members of the World Duchenne Organization. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide movement.
Today we stand with those living with DMD, their families, and everyone working for better treatments and a cure.
