United Nations Day — 24 October
#UNDay #UN80

Today, 24 October, the world marks United Nations Day — the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. On this day, with ratification by the majority of its signatories including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. No other global organization gives hope to so many people for a better world and can deliver the future we want. Today, as we mark 80 years of the UN, the urgency for all countries to come together to fulfil the promise of nations united has rarely been greater.

UN Day offers us the opportunity to amplify our common agenda and reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter — peace, justice, human rights, equality and development — that have guided humanity for eight decades.

At WAELE AFRICA Foundation, we celebrate this day with pride and purpose.

We recognize the UN as a vital partner in our mission to empower African women and girls. From UN Women to UNICEF, WHO, UNDP and UNFPA — the UN system has stood with African women in the fight against poverty, inequality, gender-based violence, maternal mortality and climate injustice.

The Charter promises _We the Peoples_ — not just governments. It promises equality of men and women. It promises dignity for all.

Yet for millions of African women, that promise is still unfulfilled. That is why this day is not just about celebration, but about recommitment.

As we commemorate UN@80, we at WAELE AFRICA reaffirm:

Peace cannot exist without women at the negotiation table.
Development cannot be sustainable without investing in women.
Human rights are incomplete until African women and girls enjoy them fully.

Let us stand united to build the Africa and the world we want — where no woman is left behind.

Congratulations to the United Nations!

Happy United Nations Day!
