In 2025: Addressing the Global Crisis of Social Protection Inequality for Women and Girls

The recent report by UN Women highlights a stark reality - two billion women and girls across the globe are facing the devastating reality of lacking access to any form of social protection. This crisis extends across all measures, from unemployment benefits to pensions and healthcare, leaving women significantly disadvantaged in terms of economic security and overall well-being.

Suggestions for women to make a difference:

1. Advocate for Policy Change: Women must actively advocate for policy changes at both national and international levels to ensure that social protection measures are inclusive and equitable for all genders.

2. Support Female Leadership: Empowering women to take on leadership roles in government, organizations, and communities can help drive initiatives that prioritize gender equality and social protection measures.

3. Educate and Empower: Providing women and girls with education and skills training can enhance their economic opportunities and empower them to advocate for their rights and access to social protection.

Ways to prevent such situations in 2025:

1. Implement Gender-Responsive Policies: Governments and organizations should prioritize the development and implementation of gender-responsive policies that address the unique needs and challenges faced by women in accessing social protection.

2. Invest in Social Protection Programs: Allocating resources and funding towards social protection programs that specifically target women and girls can help bridge the existing gaps and ensure their economic security and well-being.

3. Promote Gender Equality: Promoting and advancing gender equality on all fronts, including in education, employment, and healthcare, can help create a more equitable and inclusive society where women have equal access to social protection measures.

By taking proactive steps to advocate for policy changes, support female leadership, educate and empower women, and implement gender-responsive policies, we can work towards preventing the dire situation outlined in the UN Women report by 2025 and ensure a more equitable and inclusive future for all women and girls worldwide.
