Human Rights Day is observed on December 10, 2025, with the theme “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials”

In a world facing turbulence and unpredictability, this day reaffirms the importance of human rights in shaping daily lives. Human rights are often taken for granted but are essentials people rely on every day.

The campaign aims to reconnect people with human rights, showing how they impact everyday experiences. It highlights that human rights are positive, essential, and attainable, sparking awareness and inspiring collective action.

Through this, people are encouraged to see human rights as part of their daily lives, bridging the gap between principles and reality.

 On Human Rights in Africa

Human rights are key to protecting people in Africa. Here are ways this happens:

- Strengthening Laws and Institutions: Countries enact laws and build institutions to protect rights like equality, safety, and freedom.

- Awareness and Education: People learn about their rights, empowering them to demand protection.

- Access to Justice: Courts and tribunals address violations, ensuring accountability.

- Civil Society's Role: NGOs and activists push for rights protection and hold governments accountable.

- International Cooperation: Global bodies like the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights support countries in upholding rights.

In Africa, protecting human rights means tackling issues like inequality, discrimination, and access to basic needs. Efforts focus on:

- Promoting dignity and safety for all

- Ensuring access to education, healthcare, and justice

- Addressing specific challenges like gender-based violence and rights of marginalized groups

Human rights protection in Africa involves governments, organizations, and individuals working together.
