Happy International Youth Day! (August 12th)

Today, August 12th, we celebrate International Youth Day (IYD), a day dedicated to recognizing and empowering young people around the globe.  Established in 1999 following a recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, and formalized by UN Resolution 54-120, IYD aims to raise awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth and the challenges facing young people worldwide.

This year, let's celebrate the incredible potential of the nearly 2 billion youth (ages 10-24) who represent our future. While many young people face significant obstacles – including lack of access to education, healthcare, jobs, and opportunities, and alarmingly, many living in war-torn regions –  their resilience, adaptability, and technological proficiency are undeniable assets to our world.  They are quick to adapt to technological changes and represent a powerful force for innovation.

IYD's core goal is to empower youth to build better lives for themselves and contribute positively to society.  By fostering their engagement in social development and providing avenues for their voices to be heard, we invest in a brighter future.  Learning to address social injustice and promote peace is vital for creating a more equitable and sustainable world.

How to Observe International #YouthDay:

Engage with youth in your community: Support local youth groups and initiatives. Offer your time, resources, or simply a listening ear.  Help young people share their ideas and solutions to the challenges they face.
Share your support on social media: Use #YouthDay and #TransformingEducation to amplify the voices of youth and spread awareness of this important day.

IYD History:

Since 1999, IYD has been marked annually with a specific theme, prompting global conversations and initiatives focused on the diverse experiences and needs of young people. Let's use this day to celebrate their contributions and commit to creating a world where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
