Empowering Women and Girls: The Path to a More Equal World
Gender equality and women's empowerment are crucial for the progress and development of societies around the world. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which was established 30 years ago, laid out a comprehensive plan to achieve gender equality and the rights of women and girls. It is essential for everyone to actively work towards the goals outlined in the BPfA to ensure a more just and equal world for all.
When women and girls are empowered and given equal opportunities, everyone benefits. Research has shown that societies with gender equality tend to be more prosperous, peaceful, and productive. It is not just a moral imperative to strive for gender equality, but it also makes economic and social sense.
UN Women has launched efforts to mobilize action and investments to accelerate progress towards gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. By focusing on six priority areas of action and involving youth in these efforts, we can move closer to achieving gender equality globally.
