In continuation of her PEACE efforts in Africa, WAELE AFRICA FOUNDATION is organizing her 2018 PEACE Summit at Safari Court Hotel, Windhoek, Namibia from 1st to 3rd November, 2018 with the theme “PEACE & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: THE ROLE OF AFRICAN WOMEN’’
OBJECTIVES OF THE SUMMIT:
- Strengthen the political understanding of women’s and potential role in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and post-conflict peace building;
- Develop an overall analysis of women’s traditional role in mediation and peace-building in Africa, based on case studies undertaken within the UNESCO Special project on Women and a culture of peace in Africa;
- Share experience on women’s best practices for peace in Africa and assess their impact on the present situation in different countries in Africa;
- Provide a forum for exchange, confidence building and solidarity among African women promoters of a culture of peace;
- Creating a network to facilitate communication between women politicians, peace researcher activists for mutual support and early warning on sub-regional and regional levels, and strengthen partnership with other actors;
- Develop strategies to publicize women’s efforts for peace and non-violence;
- Specify needs for training modules and training courses in education for gender-sensitive Culture of Peace;
- Explore the use of modern technology for network and early warning;
- Suggest concrete activities in preparation of the international years for a Culture of Peace (2018) and the UN programme of action for Culture of Peace with particular relevance for Africa.
